What is Reflections?

The PTA Reflections program is a nationwide arts contest that encourages students to explore their creativity and share their unique voice through the arts.

Each year, the PTA Reflections program invites students to reflect on a theme and express themselves through art, music, film, dance, writing, or photography.

Indiana PTA actively supports this program, providing resources and organizing events to celebrate student achievements.

What My Culture Means to Me

Colorado PTA Member, Mary Lou Anderson, started the Reflections program in 1969. Since that time it has become one of the most popular programs National PTA offers. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response a student-selected theme.

The theme for the 2026-2027 school year is "What My Culture Means to Me"

Reflections is an opportunity to give students confidence in their abilities to explore ideas and learn through the arts! Students can now submit works in SIX areas:
  • Literature
  • Musical Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual
  • Dance Choreography
  • Film/Video Production

Students participate in the appropriate division for their grade: Primary (Pre-K - Grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), High School (Grades 9-12), Accessible Arts (All grades welcome).

Students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504 may enter in the Accessible Arts Division or grade division most closely aligned to their functional abilities.*

Student winners from the local level have the opportunity to move up through their local school district, council and state PTA programs to be recognized at the national level.

Please Note:
  • All participating units must be PTAs in good standing.
  • All local Theme Search winners should be submitted to Indiana PTA by October 31, 2026.
  • All local art category winners should be submitted to Indiana PTA by January 15, 2027.
