Message from Region VP, Carissa Dollar
Welcome to the Indiana PTA Central Region web page! My name is Carissa Dollar and I am excited to serve as your new Central Region Vice President.
This year’s Central Region team includes myself, Rachel Burke, Nashia Abdul-Aleem, Maria Wright, Sue Switzer, Job Wise and Sharon Wise.
Your Central Region Indiana PTA board members are always ready to help you with any questions or concerns that you may have. We plan to hold at least three training sessions in our region this school year. We will also be in contact with you throughout the next year to make sure you are informed about upcoming deadlines and that you receive important information from Indiana PTA to make your term as a PTA leader a smooth and rewarding experience.
I encourage each of you to take advantage of the many resources and opportunities provided by Indiana PTA that will make your job easier. The National PTA web page, our Indiana PTA web page, Facebook page, and the weekly Good News emails are great resources that are available to all PTA leaders. If your unit has never attended a region training or a state convention, I’d also strongly encourage you to make the commitment to do so this year. Remember that training is not only an acceptable expense in your annual budget, it is an investment in the future of your unit.
We have many units here across our region doing great things in their schools. I hope that each of you will share at least one great thing that is happening in your school on the Indiana PTA Facebook page or through our weekly Good News email updates. Indiana PTA loves giving you credit for the wonderful things you are doing across our region and PTA leaders all over the state can learn and get new ideas when we all share. Share your success stories with any of the Central Region team or the state office and we will be happy to brag about what you are doing!
One last note: with state and local budgets being slashed, funding in our public schools continues to be a big concern for many parents. This difficult situation can also serve as a reminder to us that PTA’s roots are based in our commitment to advocating for all children, everychild.onevoice. Together, our voices are stronger. PTA units across our state and nation can come together as a united group representing the best interests of our children to our legislators. This is one of the key differences between PTA and other parent organizations, that we can come together as a unified group in support of the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship.
Please stay in touch with our Central Region team. We can’t wait to hear your school’s story this year and learn how you are making a difference for Indiana’s children!

What is a Council?
Central Region is blessed to have 3 active councils. A PTA council is made up of 3 or more PTAs/PTSAs in a given area, city or county. Units serve individual schools, where as councils maintain close working relations with school administration, providing an association where units can work with school boards and administrators on problems affecting all schools within the council boundaries.
The purpose of a council is to provide trainings and coordination of programs of the member units. Assisting in the development of future PTA leaders is one of the council’s major functions. Delegates, representing each unit, participate in council meetings and promptly relay information from the council to their unit. Membership in council is voluntary, but PTA units are encouraged to join because of the added benefits of communication provided by council.
The council is a service group to the local unit. They do not dictate or legislate for local units. This means that councils neither set up rules nor take action involving member units without their consent. Councils are bound by their own bylaws and must work within the framework of the PTA purposes, recognizing that they are the foundation of all PTA work.
The 3 councils in Central region are Central Indiana Council of PTAs, Perry Township Council of PTAs, and Warren Township Council of PTAs. Click one of the Council tabs below to find out more about your council.
Not affiliated with a council? That is OK! The Indiana PTA is still here to help you. Check the Non-Affiliated tab for information on Regional trainings, your Field Service Representatives, and other things that will benefit your local PTA Unit.
